Artist Statement — Catherine Liora
My work begins with a single gesture and grows through constant experimentation. I don’t plan my compositions; I follow the process—adding, removing, shifting colour—until the image reaches a point that feels resolved and true. Working digitally allows me to explore without limit. I can push a mark, undo it, rework an idea, and keep searching until something essential emerges.
What I’m ultimately trying to capture is difficult to name: a sense of “everything at once,” an impression of the world that is more felt than described. Although my works are not landscapes in a traditional sense, they often lean toward that language—open spaces, horizons, movements of light—echoes of places that don’t exist but feel familiar.
My practice is guided by intuition, curiosity, and the belief that colour and gesture can hold an entire atmosphere of meaning. Each piece is a record of discovery, a way of finding form for something just on the edge of perception.
